On the boat your phone talks straight to the boat computer: live instruments, battery and range, the chart with AIS traffic, cameras, and switching for non-critical circuits. It works with the satellite link down — the boat probe wins over the internet state, so aboard is aboard even with no internet at all.
Switching on the phone is filtered before anything renders: the propulsion bank and the main contactor are not merely locked, they are absent. Anything that changes the boat asks for Face ID or fingerprint first, and a failed biometric can never block a hardwired path.
Away from the boat the app reads over the boat’s encrypted cloud link: state of charge, charging state and ready time, position, camera stills capped so a camera never starves the satellite link, trip history with the track drawn, and push alerts.
Away is read-only by construction. Each phone gets its own credential, read-scoped by default; revoke a phone from the fleet dashboard and it is out in under a minute.
Tap the icon and the app opens on the BoatPlay splash and then your boat — every time, not only on a cold start. The layout respects the iPhone’s safe areas, the status bar and the home indicator get their own padding, and touch targets stay at 64 points.
The app and the Helm share one codebase: the phone keeps what a phone does well and drops what belongs at the wheel. Depth and speed, the go-to pin and saved routes, one camera feed with the stern thumbnail, energy and range, weather, audio and the alarm history all have a phone-sized home.
